Depression is a common illness worldwide, with an estimated 3.8% of the population affected, including 5.0% among adults and 5.7% among adults older than 60 years .
Approximately 280 million people in the world have depression.
There are many ways to manage, lower and treat depression, and it’s very important to find what works best for you. On this basis, you should be able to prepare a plan and walk slowly down onto it to treat it. Currently, the common treatment options include therapy, medication, self-care, yoga, and meditation. It’s also advisable to seek help from a mental health professional, such as a therapist or psychiatrist, who can help you determine the best course of treatment. This will give you a pathway and able to find out the root cause of your situation. Depression is not an illness so don’t get demotivated. It’s just a mood type and can be cured if taken care of properly.
Simultaneously, it is also important to make lifestyle changes such as getting regular exercise or yoga, eating a healthy diet, getting enough sleep and surrounding yourself with positive and motivated people. Don’t hesitate to take support from friends and family, this can really be very helpful. Volunteering or giving back to your community – This actually gives mental peace when you help the needy. Start looking for orphanages or charity homes and help them. Provide the items which they need and it will give you internal happiness.
Joining a support group or online forum for people with depression – It’s not just you who is passing through this phase. There are a lot of people who are in the same boat. In recent years, depression has increased throughout the world and for this lot of online groups are created. The purpose of these groups is to share the experience with each other and give some positivity. This will make you feel you are not alone and will find out a way to come out from this phase.
Staying connected with friends and family – your family & friends are the best supporters. Talk with them, discussing your situation with them will make you feel better. Go on outings with them, and give rest to your body and mind.
Avoiding alcohol and drugs – While passing through this phase, avoid alcohol or drugs, this can worsen your situation and make you feel more aggressive. These provoke your anger and can be against to your plan. Start reading books that will keep you busy and engaged.
It’s important to remember that depression is a curable condition, and there are many effective treatment options available. However, it may take some time and experimentation to find the correct combination of treatments that work for you. But it doesn’t mean you should not give it a try.
